A few decades ago, a group of young colleagues, now accomplished professionals, met with our retiring "Maestro." It was Professor Juan Carlos Gatti, to whom we wanted to express our recognition and gratitude for his dedication and the lasting impact he had had on each of us.
He was a true leader, an entrepreneur, a generator and driving force behind projects. Extremely demanding, he knew how to set boundaries and point out our mistakes, but at the same time, he was empathetic with each of us when we needed it.
He was as enthusiastic as a child when a goal was achieved, a mirror in which it was very difficult not to see ourselves reflected.
Over the years, we discovered that we had learned a great deal from him. That what is important doesn't cease to be so if viewed with a bit of humor. That accepting one's own flaws with a smile helps others recognize theirs. That personal commitment to work always generates positive feedback within the team. That serenity is the best tool in the midst of a storm.
Today we see that everything is conceptualized; Leadership and management strategies are readily available in books. And technological advancements provide us with fantastic tools, such as artificial intelligence. Knowledge is acquired at lightning speed, and diagnostic algorithms and differential diagnoses emerge easily, without requiring long hours of research.
However, despite all these advances, there will always be a place for that "Master" who, through their example, dedication, commitment, and passion, manages to motivate and leave a personal mark on those around them.
